“Cork and metal tell the quiet strength of renewal”

Hope is an artwork that speaks about transformation before it speaks about the sea. Unlike many other sculptures in the collection, its dominant material is not metal but natural cork, used in its most authentic and irregular form. Cavities, cracks and weathered textures become the heart of the composition, telling a story of endurance and adaptation.

The head, built from burnished metal sheets and reclaimed components, introduces a more industrial presence. A metallic eye emerges from the surface, while an oxidized chain runs along the body, creating a visual boundary between nature and human intervention. This contrast is one of the sculpture's most compelling features.

The elongated tail further defines the character of the piece. Weathered wood and metallic inserts extend the silhouette and create a sense of calm, flowing movement. Small brushes and reclaimed details become fins and appendages, demonstrating how every object can acquire a new meaning.

Through creative recycling, very different materials find an unexpected balance. Cork, fragile and lightweight, coexists with metal, strong and durable. From this union emerges a creature that appears to have survived both time and the elements.

Hope is a reflection on renewal. It reminds us that even what seems worn, incomplete or forgotten can become something new while preserving the memory of its past.
